In 1964, he won a Grammy Award for “I Started Out as a Child.” He became the first African American actor to star in a television show, “I Spy,” with Robert Culp. In 1971 Cosby starred in the PBS television show “The Electric Company.” Next, he wrote and produced the popular children’s show, “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.”
Bill Cosby’s most endearing role was as Dr. Clifford Huxtable, in “The Cosby Show,” in 1984. The show portrayed an upper class black family with strong ties to each other. It became one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. Cosby is also famous and infamous for his clearly stated views on black families and black culture.
