“Wouldn’t it be nice” to jump on “The Sloop John B.” to see one of the final appearances “Brian Wilson Presents ‘Pet Sounds’” at the Rosemont Theatre October 6, and stay at the nearby and affordable Elk Grove Chicago Hotel!
This is the 50th anniversary of “Pet Sounds,” one of the most iconic albums of all time. The great Brian Wilson has said this will be his last go around, but who knows. When the Beach Boys album debuted in 1966, the response was mixed. Now, it’s a classic. This performance features Al and Matt Jardine and Blondie Chapman.
“Pet Sounds” was almost entirely a Brian Wilson project. He wrote the very introspective songs, did the arrangements (including parts for bicycle bells, trains, Coke cans, barking dogs, Electro-Theremin, and Hawaiian instruments) and wrote the beautiful vocal harmonies. The album was pioneering in the sense of incorporating elements of pop, jazz, classical and avant-garde into the mix. Almost fifty musicians worked on the studio project.
